Welcome to Mintlaw District Men’s Shed, a friendly community where men can connect, chat and create together. Much like your garden shed, it's a space to exchange skills, share stories, and lend support. We're here to help combat loneliness and isolation while enhancing mental wellbeing. Membership is free for anyone aged 18 and over in Mintlaw and nearby villages, no practical skills required! Just drop in for a cuppa and some good conversation!
Our Story
Our exciting journey started in October 2018 when a committee was formed. After countless brainstorming sessions, we set our sights on establishing a SCIO and began reaching out to landowners and the Aberdeenshire Council for a space we could use. We were thrilled to receive an offer of the derelict Gardener’s Cottage in Aden Country Park as our Men’s Shed base. Thanks to a National Lottery grant, we have transformed the cottage into a safe and inviting space, allowing us to focus on providing an amazing place that boosts the social well-being of adults aged 18 and over in Mintlaw and the surrounding areas. We are on a mission to combat social isolation by offering a fantastic environment where people can come together, share their skills, and engage in fun, creative, and purposeful activities. In a newly equipped workshop, we are thrilled to start the Aden Picture Framing Social Enterprise, which will help us generate funds to enable us to do work in the community. Come and join us in making a positive impact in our community and enhancing lives together.
Meet the Team
Gordon Reid, our Chairman, stands alongside a few dedicated volunteers at the Men's Shed. Together, they contribute their time and skills to foster a supportive community environment. Their efforts help create a welcoming space for all members & new members to connect and engage in meaningful activities.
The Men's Shed has been actively engaged in a variety of meaningful projects, showcasing our commitment to the community. We've refurbished electrical hook-up boxes for Aden Caravan and Camping, constructed a pond dipping platform for Aden, created planters for local businesses, and supported local schools with their gardening initiatives. Our hands-on approach not only enhances our surroundings but also fosters a sense of camaraderie among members. Join us in making a difference!
Coffee & Catch-up
Join us for a caffeinated gossip fest where we’ll reminisce about the good old days and laugh about our most cringeworthy moments. It’s the perfect excuse to sip, snack, and share stories that are probably better left in the past!
CAN THE SHED HELP YOU!
We’re thrilled to be making a difference in our community through exciting projects like restoring notice boards, furniture, benches, and garden tables. We're also passionate about partnering with local schools to inspire children with hands-on activities, such as building mud kitchens and crafting bird box kits.
